Project title: ΙΧΘΥΑSIS- Research in small and large scale for the production of fish of high biological and nutritional value
Project duration: 2010-2013
Budget: € 810.000; Unit of Microbiology € 60.000
Financial support: Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology, European Union
Short project description
The current project runs in the framework of the operational program "Competitiveness and business", PRAXIS I, 2007-2013. The contractor of this project is the enterprise “PLAGTON SA”.
This project aims to the production of fish (bream, bass) of high biological and nutritional value. It focuses on the effect of high valuable feed containing microelements, ω3-PUFAs, resveratrol and polyphenols on fish growth and it also includes a small scale clinical research, as far as the benefits in man’s health of the consumption of these fish concerns.
During this project, design and production of fish feed supplemented with high-value compounds will be achieved in order to improve the growth and physical state of the fish, which may result in consumers’ health.
The current project will be accomplished in 5 Work Packages, one of which will be the main research object of the Unit of Microbiology. More specifically, Unit of Microbiology will study the enrichment of fish in ω3-PUFAs through bioincorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acids to microalgae.
