The courses of ''Microbiology'' include the introduction in the science of Microbiology and its evolution, the analysis of structure of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell and viruses and the molecular biology and physiology of microorganisms. In the framework of this course various bacteria, archaea and fungi genera (with considerable interest for industry, environment, health and agriculture) and many important viruses, are examined.

In the courses of "Applied Microbiology" it is studied the kinetics of microbial growth in batch and continuous systems. Moreover, the metabolic pathways involved in various carbon sources assimilation are extensively analyzed. The different bioreactors’ types and how physiochemical parameters affect microbial growth are examined in detail. Furthermore, several important biotechnological applications of Microbiology (i.e. industrial and environmental) are discussed in depth.
